Dreams and the Summer Olympics

The Summer Olympics are here! It’s always so exciting to watch athletes, who have trained years, sometimes a lifetime, realize this moment for themselves and their country. The ambition, dedication, and focus that is needed to get them here is self-evident, and inspiring.
This year, the Summer Olympics are a little more personal because I know a competing athlete, Maria-Elena Calle. Her passion is running, and she is extremely fast, but that alone wasn’t what got her there. She kept her vision clear, she worked hard to prepare her body, and she didn’t let life’s trials and tribulations stand in the way. Her dream was to one-day get to the Olympics. And she has achieved this dream. I am beyond inspired and incredibly happy for her.
As I think about her and the commitment that it took to achieve this amazing accomplishment, I also think about myself, my dreams, and what I want to achieve. Watching these athletes live out their dream inspires me to push harder, be more diligent, and always maintain that focus, even on the days when I just don’t feel like it. Life will always have its trials and tribulations; it’s when we push past them that we arrive to where our dreams await.
So as the world’s elite athletes compete, I applaud them, and share in the excitement of others achieving extraordinary heights, reaching their goals and being amazing role models for all.
And now, back to the easel for me….
Here’s what I’m currently working on… don’t worry, it’s not done yet! When I’m finished there will be a lot more pink! (yes, I am a mother to three boys and need more pink in my life! :P) I'll post the finished piece soon!
